Biography

Mesa Tona conjures into creation a unique and exciting new brand of modern alternative-acoustic-rock that oozes originality. Former heavy-rocker now turned multi-instrumental solo artist, he spans writer-performer, to sound engineer and producer roles.

As ex-lead guitarist and a founding member of explosive Australian heavy-rock outfit, SEVEN, he has shared stages with major international acts such as Oasis, The Bloodhound Gang, Blink 182, Deftones, Soulfly, Bad Religion, Lou Reed, Suzanne Vega, HIM, The Tea Party, Grinspoon, The Superjesus, The Screaming Jets and many others. He has played on tours such as Vans Warped, performed on main stage at festivals such as Sziget in Budapest, Hungary, and at major music events like Triple J’s (Australian radio station) Schoolies Week on Australia’s Gold Coast. He has also held a daily performance residency at Australian theme park, DreamWorld’s ‘ExtremeWorld’ X-Games demonstrations for extended periods. With SEVEN, he has had several tracks aired on Triple J’s ‘3 Hours of Power’ show, and has featured on compilation releases such as Full Metal Racket, along-side the likes of Metallica and Fear Factory.

From humble beginnings as a 90’s bedroom guitarist, to sell-out shows and music festival audiences circa 2000, followed by extended hiatus, Mesa Tona now renews and reinvents himself to express a deeply personal sonic vision with passion, depth, and personality.

His debut double solo albums, The End of Control Vol. I and Vol. II blend alternatively-tuned acoustic guitars with numerous world acoustic instruments including the Turkish baglama and oud, Indian sitar and tanpura, Persian tar, and Thai khim and Saw-U, along with atmospheric synths and a multitude of percussion from several continents. The result is a rich, textured, driving sound that is complex and unusual, yet accessible and familiar. Think a full-colour palette of exotic-acoustic-rock for the modern era, with main-stream sensibilities. While his music has sometimes evoked mention of acts such as Alice in Chains, The Tea Party and even Nine Inch Nails, listeners often agree it remains elusively its own, beyond pigeon-holing.

Mesa Tona is truly something different.
